City College Will Issue March 15 Notices to Faculty and Administrators
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 鈥 On February 25, the 91风月楼 Board of Trustees approved initial steps to reduce faculty and administrator salary expenses for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Board action directs Interim Chancellor Vurdien to issue preliminary layoff notices to affected employees on or before March 15, 2021. The Board action is in line with the unanimous Board approval of the 5-year Budget plan in November 2020, which called for a reduction in employee salary costs and other expenditures.
The preliminary notices follow the process and guidelines specified in California Education Code Sections 87740 and 87743, which prescribe the requirements and procedures for restructuring the college鈥檚 compensation structure for full-time faculty and administrators. Based on the Budget Plan and Education Code requirements, preliminary layoff notices will be issued to 163 full-time faculty and 34 administrators. This represents a potential reduction of 30% of the current full-time faculty and 74% of the current administrators if salary concessions are not achieved.
